Bestpass and PrePass to use One Transponder for Tolls

Bestpass users to use one transponder to pay tolls and PrePass weigh station bypass system

Users of Bestpass transponders, now can enroll the same transponder into PrePass weigh station bypass system. The agreement was made so there will be no need for drivers to get multiple transponders.

Under the agreement, PrePass will provide Bestpass customers with a single transponder, that can be used for bypassing and toll payments.

Founded in 2001 by the Trucking Association of New York, Bestpass processes around $45 million in tolls each month. It services more than 40 toll roads and bridges in the U.S., for about 3,400 freight carriers.

So, the aim now is to help Bestpass trucking customers of all sizes. It will save them money and time, especially to the owner-operators.

Bestpass and PrePass use similar transponders with radio frequency identification technology. The electronic toll payments only work with transponders today.

“Using weigh station bypass services saves an average of $8.68 and five minutes each time a truck bypasses a truck weigh station, according to a Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration study,” said Mark Doughty vice president and chief operating officer of HELP Inc., the company that provides the PrePass service.

“With this new offering, fleets selecting Bestpass for their toll payment solution can add the PrePass weigh station bypass service, therefore extending the value of the Bestpass transponder.”

Based in Phoenix, Help Inc. is a non-profit public-private partnership that provides weigh station bypass, toll payment and safety score management services for more than 500,000 vehicles. The vehicles are pre-screened for compliance with state and federal safety requirements and driver credentials.
